Patent and Trademark Office Society Trivia Contest Spring 2013

Sponsored by the Historic Display Committee of the Patent and Trademark Office Society

Please submit your entry via email to Eric.Keasel@uspto.gov.  The person who answers the most questions correctly wins a pair of movie passes and the coveted title of trivia genius.  In case of a tie, a random drawing will determine the winner.  Entries due by April 21, 2013.  Winner and answers will be announced the following week on the Historic Display Committee webpage at www.PTOS.org .

1.  The deadline for entry of this contest marks the 103rd anniversary of the passing of which American literature icon?

2.  The author from question 1 was also an inventor.  Name the three US Patents issued to him.

3. From which of his stories does the following quotation come from?
“That reminds me to remark, in passing, that the very first official
thing I did, in my administration -- and it was on the very first day
of it, too -- was to start a patent office; for I knew that a country
without a patent office and good patent laws was just a crab,
and couldn't travel any way but sideways or backways.”
