The Wilkes Street Cemetery Complex

3:30 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 15

Meet at the corner of Wilkes Street and Hamilton Lane, Alexandria, VA (1475–1501 Wilkes Street).

Just a few blocks east of USPTO headquarters lies one of the most fascinating collections of cemeteries you’ll ever find, filled with impressive headstones and dramatic personal stories.  Our guide, David Heiby, will share this history from the 18th to the 20th century, discovered through firsthand research and fieldwork.

Please wear comfortable walking shoes.  The ground is uneven in places, and the walk is outdoors from start to finish, so dress for the weather.  There are no restrooms on site.

The tour is $20 per person (admission fee of $30 minus a $10 PTOS subsidy) for a maximum of 25 PTOS members; please purchase your ticket here: PTOS Online Reservations.

Paid street parking is available on nearby streets such as Jamieson Avenue; the meeting point is also walkable from the USPTO campus.
